Role Description
A Ward Clerk contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of a hospital ward where there are specific challenges related to health records. This includes: checking that patients’ health records are available for use by ward staff and have been tracked appropriately on patient information management systems; updating patient information management systems consistent with the assessment and care given to the patient; supplying the necessary range of administration documents for use by ward staff; preparing patient case notes consistent with health record standards and protocols; undertaking administration for patient discharge, transfer and death; maintaining patient confidentiality; undertaking general administrative duties needed on the ward; exchanging information with patients, visitors and staff; and liaising with relevant people, departments and organisations to support patients and staff.

Good general standard of education, including evidence of literacy and numeracy
